I want a clean explorative way to turn music into poetry and poetry into music
I am motivated in this idea by the felt implied sonority common in language
Initally i studied the works of Helmholtz (on acoustics) and I wanted to
Try recording people talking at pitches and trying to gauge the frequencies
But I realized that was elementary and unyielding
So now I am exploring this concept:
Say yyyeeeeaaaaaaawwwwwiiiiiiaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyee
All of the vowels are here encompassed, in 2 cycles
- from the lower palate Yeeaaaaahhhhhhwwwww
- from the higher palate wwwhhhhyyyyyaaaaaayyyeeee
The question is: in order to relate the vowel cycles to relatively fixed points on a musical scale;
How do we consolidate the 2 vowel scales into 1 musical scale
Applications:
- First and foremost you can turn poems into music and music into (presumably) nonsensical poems
- Allow you to compose music on top of your words (you could even do it for a whole novel) I truly envision a future with musical books.
- If you were to analyze the literature of certain eras it feels like it would shadow certain aspects of the music of the era.
Example: Beatnik/jazz, baroque music/classical literature, romantic era/ romantic music
On a plane trip back from NYC I met one of the best Oboe players in the world (Has a seat in the NY philharmonic) we had an exhaustive 6 hour conversation about Genius, spirituality, and music among other things. Together we figured out a strategy for making this happen!
