Why do we have personal annotations?
- To be more inviting. People who aren't confident in their writing skills can still contribute.
- To allow for off site annotation.
- To infuse a social dynamic into the annotation.
- Rework the verified situation. Now Verifieds can comment on each other's work.
Beneficial effects not already specified:
- Closed group census.
- Allows Genius to be a "controlled debate platform".
- Reduces accountability for an individual's statement.
- Creates a way to discuss alternate theories without overwhelming the users in one annotation.
What if personal annotations were on every page?
Cons/problems to be fixed:
- An annotation can't contain another annotation.
- messiness ^
- Duplicates after incorporation
- Confusing to new user?
Possible solutions/ideas:
- Tags for "Personal annotation types" - debate, research, commercial, etc... Annotator has a simple code that he types into each personal annotation to assign it to a "Type". Groups can "claim a code".
