Guides

There are a lot of guides on Genius that you can read to further your knowledge! In order of importance:

• How Genius Works: This guide sets the precedent for the expected quality of annotations, but it is also helpful in giving an overview of what we do here. The Ten Annotation Commandments section in the bio is very important.
• Genius FAQ: This guide was created by the community for the community. It contains frequently asked questions. If you can’t find the answer to something chances are it’s in here.
• Formatting and Markdown: This guide contains all of the formatting tricks out there. How and when to italicise, bold, make a table, etc…
• How to Transcribe: This guide contains tips for making your transcriptions as high quality as possible. It also contains tips that will make it easier for you to transcribe.
• Q & A Guidelines: The Q & A section of a song page is one of the most accessible ways to contribute. It’s a fun and easy way to make sure all vital information gets on to the song page.
• How To Edit Metadata: A best practices guide for all things metadata.

Advanced

Becoming a moderator: Becoming a moderator in Genius UK will be huge, especially since we need one that's active regularly. If you create new initiatives and set the foundation for the UK tag, you could be close!

Verifying artists: Verifying users is only accessible to moderators, and it can be used to verify users who add their own music. If someone wants to become a verified artist, ask them to fill out the form on this page. If they have more than 1K streams on Spotify, verify them as Tier I. This gives them a green tick on their name, among other things. If they have less than this, verify them as Tier II. This makes them community verified, so they don't have a green tick, but they still have some privileges.

Mentoring other users to editorship: When mentoring a user, make sure to link them the guidelines, and ask them for a brand new annotation. This way you can find out how skilled they are. When giving feedback, be constructive, and don't knock them down (a smiley face can't hurt). Their annotations should be interesting, informative and well formatted. If you have any questions about mentoring, feel free to message one of the users on this list!

Maintenance
Once we've built momentum, it'd be a great idea to make weekly threads to highlight great things that our contributors are doing. We already have the Genius UK Expansion Hub to keep progress of what we're doing.

So, what do we need?

New initiatives: Since we all speak English, we can all participate in the Weekly Annotation Competitions, but we can also have our own things for the UK side. Our only initiatives are the biweekly updates and the weekly New Track Tuesday threads. It'd be great if we could think up one or two more initiatives to bolster Genius UK.

UK tag cleanup: The tracks on the front page for the 'UK' tag look pretty rusty, with lots of unreviewed annotations, no album bios and improper formatting. It'd be great if a couple of us users (PM me on Genius/Slack if you wanna be a part) clean up the tag!
