One Short Day (Commentary) lyrics

The song "One Short Day," which is kind of a tour through the Emerald City, has a little moment in it in the show where they go to see a show called "Wizomania." In our movie, that's been greatly expanded so that we understand that there's all this propaganda that is telling the false story of how the wizard came to be the ruler of Oz. And so there's a whole new section of that.

It was always going to be expanded. And then Stephen had written a much larger, longer expansion. And then it started to get clearer and clearer as we started to kind of edit it down and figure out what the moments needed when it was decided that Kristin and Idina were going to be a part of it it was really important to you know to honor both of them and to to pay tribute to what they're both known for in the original piece and then we we got to just continue to refine and play with that. We added two very specific things to show off both Kristin and Idina. So we gave Kristin this big, glorious soprano moment, musically, that Stephen wrote. And then there's a moment that Idina sings something that everyone knows, what we call the war cry at the end of defying gravity it's just the passing of the torch of the you know of the of those two two wome,n it's just really beautiful.

"One Short Day" is one of those moments where you get to see the two of them you sort of realize their dreams a little, um, it's just a sweet moment where they are the most hopeful they can possibly be but I think it's really important that it's set up for it to be really big and bright and green and emerald and the one time that she doesn't feel out of place because everything around her matches her and I think that it's the first time she feels like she belongs. We had such a good time doing that but we were out in like doing night shoots for that one as well so we were also deathly exhausted but also blissfully happy.
