He Thinks / She Thinks lyrics

by

Laura Osnes

[DARCY, spoken]
Ms. Bingley gives me too much credit. Even a wise man can be made ridiculous by a person whose first object in life is a joke.

[ELIZABETH]
He thinks I’m a silly female
I think he’s a boorish man!
(spoken)
I hope I never ridicule what is wise or good. Follies and nonsense do divert me, but these are precisely what you are without?

[DARCY, spoken]
No one is without a failing, but it has been my object to avoid those weaknesses which expose one to ridicule.
(sung)
She thinks I have no sense
Of humour!
I think I find humour
Where I can

[ELIZABETH, spoken]
Weaknesses. Such as vanity and pride?

[DARCY, spoken]
Vanity is weakness indeed. But pride… Where there is real superiority, pride will always be acceptable.

[DARCY]
She thinks I am very clever
[ELIZABETH]
He has logic
Full of chinks!

(Music stops.)

[Elizabeth, spoken]
Mr. Darcy—

[CAROLINE, spoken]
Mr. Darcy, will you turn my pages?

(The sound of a page turning.)
(Music resumes.)

[ELIZABETH]
I can’t abide
His company
He is full of pride and vanity!
Why should I care
What he thinks?

[DARCY]
I think she has been teasing me!
Why should I care
What she thinks?
(Music stops.)

[DARCY, spoken]
A person may be proud without being vain.

[CAROLINE, spoken]
Mr. Darcy!

(The sound of a page turning.)
(Music resumes.)

[ELIZABETH]
I can’t abide
His company!
He is full of pride and vanity!

[DARCY]
I think she
Has been teasing me!

[ELIZABETH]
I
Do not care
What he thinks!

[DARCY]
Why
Should I care
What she thinks?
