A breath, a cry
A spark of new and ageless light
Is born to us
From reaches felt, beyond our sight

Her glance, her gaze
Her knowing look so sure and bright--
Somehow we sense
Within her soul is heaven's might!

And then it shows;
A chosen step, a smile a song--
Not just like us
And less so as life rolls along

Until, at last
We recognize her sacred will
To be herself--

Not butterfly or daffodil
Leviathan or whippoorwill
Not sparrow, lamb, or creature small
Sequestered in a nest or stall
But one so different from them all:

A Child of Light!
With eyes to see
The colors of the earth and sky
And sing with joy
Of beauty and its reason why--

With faith to plant in barren land
And gather fruit from Nature’s hand
To move with all those melodies
That rise in us, like wind in trees
And freely share from soul's deep well
The feelings tongue can never tell

Who is this Child of Light
Who lives a life she calls her own
And for herself
Knows who she is, as she is known?

She is God's child!
And irrevocably He gives
The Light of Life
And thus, her spark forever lives

So fan her flame and fear be gone!
His Light will lead her home anon
And we, with her, will e’er go on
