White Whine lyrics
by Dead Pioneers
I don't hate white people
I know, things have been said, feelings have been hurt
Listen, I have white friends and they're not offended
But you have to understand that these systems, these structures we live in, under, and with
They are not built for people like me
Every terrible racist intolerant experience I've had in my life has been at the hand of a whitе
I get it though
Not all whites
Only some whitеs
If we look hard enough we can see that the principles of white supremacy are systemic
That means they're part of those aforementioned structures
Not meant for us
It's in the stereotypes you use
And how doctors treat us
How police engage us
How easy it is to get a high or low interest loan
Or if you can swim here or picnic there
But not all whites
I get it
If I get called an "Indian" with enough vitriol
Saying it with a look on your face like you smell something terrible
I have to believe that either I'm the problem
Or you're the problem
It takes a long time for a brown child to realize it's not them
Sometimes we don't escape that
We carry the burden for their whole lives
Die shamed and broken
So to call things out for what they are, when they are
Lifts the veil of the great American gaslight
Where we can live free knowing that we are OK
Beautiful
Intelligent
Divine
Enough
Now this is a lot and it's hard to find humanity in it, or humor
Sustainability
Balance
So I'll leave you with this
I don't drink but my favorite white whine is "All Lives Matter"
