I woke up crying today. The room was dark and I wasn't totally sure where I was. Like maybe I was dreaming but I ripped the curtains open. I was still in Nagoya. There was a huge sign that had pachinko and slot in English underneath Japanese text.
Muan took us to Inari. It was raining in Kyoto and I had to walk with one hand covering my vending machine coffee while we made our way through the streets to the shrine. I felt this calming peace, standing in the pouring rain walking through hundreds of orange gates, a language I don't understand filling the air around me. We climbed the stairs to a pond surrounded by a bamboo forest and I bought a candle from a stall. The man gave me matches and I made my way back down to the enclosure full of stands, wax dripped down their sides. I lit it for Pop and told him I was sorry I'd miss the funeral.
