Original Cast of Why Am I So Single

[ENSEMBLE]
All we need

[NANCY, spoken]
Once upon a time
There was a magical place called 'London's West End'

[OLIVER, spoken]
It was home to the world's most impressive
And important musicals
And Mamma Mia

[NANCY, spoken]
And our story begins when one particular theatre called upon two musical writers
To write a musical

[OLIVER, spoken]
Now, these writers knew that musicals needed huge and important stories

[NANCY, spoken]
Stories of epic romances
Extraordinary journey
And impossible quests

[OLIVER, spoken]
But
For these two writers
The only stories they had were about their own pathetic little dating lives
[NANCY, spoken]
And so
They came up with a plan

[OLIVER, spoken]
All we need to do is this
If we tell a story about our own pathetic little dating lives
But we dress it all up with big fancy musical numbers
Then audiences will actually think it's worth watching

[NANCY, spoken]
Are you sure they'll be convinced?

[OLIVER, spoken]
Of course, I mean, not sophisticated theatre-goers
But the kind of riff-raff you get at the Garrick will love it

[NANCY, spoken]
And so, they went forth and wrote it
Even starting with a classic prologue

[OLIVER, spoken]
For they knew, if there's one way to convince people that a story was worth watching
It was by explaining it up top through modern dance

[NANCY, spoken]
And just to really seal the deal
They decided they would end it with a brilliant theatrical twist
Where they would reveal that it was them that had been narrating the whole time
[OLIVER, spoken]
Pretty clever, eh?

[NANCY, spoken]
Yeah, you don't get this at Les Mis

[OLIVER, spoken]
And now we're here, you’re there, the doors are locked
The show we've written about ourselves
Can begin

[NANCY, spoken]
A show that begins with

[OLIVER, spoken]
A doorbell
