The Minstrel Boy lyrics
by Unholy Modal Rounders
[Intro]
This is a song written in 1809
[Verse 1]
The minstrel boy to the war has gone
In the ranks of death, you'll find him
His father's sword, he has girded on
And his wild harp swings beside him
[Verse 2]
"Land of song," cried the warrior bard
"Though all the Earth betray thee
One sword, at least, thy door shall guard
One minstrel harp shall praise thee"
[Verse 3]
The minstrel fell, but the foeman's chain
Couldn't hold his proud soul under
The harp he loved never sang again
He tore its strings asunder
[Verse 4]
And said, "No chains shall sully thee
Thy soul of love and bravery
Thy songs were made for the proud and free
And you'll never sound in slavery"
